![]() ![]() Nowadays, historical artifacts from various dynasties are continuously unearthed, which are of great value for the study of ancient costumes. As the bearer of historical culture in each period, the changes in the shape and production process of costume are the result of the continuous evolution of Chinese costume culture. With the development of human history, there is also a constant reform and evolution of garments. Garments are an important product in the history of human development. From the results of the costume restoration, the AHP captures the uncertainty in the process of costume virtual simulation evaluation, quantifies the judgments with weights, reduces the subjectivity of the evaluation process, and provides a scientific and effective method for evaluating the virtual simulation effect of ancient costumes. The results show that the virtual simulation effect of the Plain Unlined Silk Gauze Gown is very good. Finally, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and the fuzzy comprehensive evaluation method are introduced to evaluate the virtual simulation effect of the costume. Then virtual simulation technology is used to digitally restore the Plain Unlined Silk Gauze Gown in combination with the fabric, color and pattern of the costume. In this paper, the Plain Unlined Silk Gauze Gown is taken as the research object, and the costume pattern is obtained through 3D interactive pattern-making technology. ![]() Therefore, there is an urgent need to carry out archeology, restoration and protection of the Plain Unlined Silk Gauze Gown. However, due to it being unearthed decades ago and imperfect preservation measures being used, it has been increasingly damaged by the influence of the external environment. In 1972, the Plain Unlined Silk Gauze Gown unearthed from the Mawangdui Han Dynasty tomb in Changsha, Hunan Province, China, received attention from various fields such as archeology, cultural relics conservation, textile and costume because of its light texture and exquisite craftsmanship. This case study demonstrates that digital reconstructions can be more than scientific visualisation, but also a new and powerful research tool, generating new insights into archaeological artefacts. In other words, his clothing and armour result very suitable for warfare. The military clothing of the Germanic warrior proves very functional in terms of physics, materials science, anatomy and biomechanics. CG and CAD tools, such as stress analysis and strain analysis, were applied to visualize and examine the behaviour of his equipment. His panoply consists of trousers, a tunic, shoes, a mail coat, an under-armour garment and a belt. ![]() This article showcases its possibilities by focussing upon the equipment of a Germanic warrior from the 2nd–4th century AD. Despite the possibilities of computer technology, such as computer graphics (CG) and computer-aided design (CAD), its potential has only been superficially explored. This applies particularly to those from an archaeological context, which can be incomplete, damaged or fragile. Virtual reality opens new ways for reconstructing, preserving and exhibiting clothing and textiles. ![]()
